Say Hello to Pixel, Google's New Phone

Watch out Samsung and iPhone, here comes Google’s newly launched phone, Pixel.

Despite the news of a phone launch, Google said goodbye to its previous smartphone line, Nexus. The unveiling of Google’s latest version of Android software usually happens in a Nexus phone, this time it was introduced on its new smartphone line.

Google Pixel along with the latest news from the company presented its smartphone through its “Made by Google” event.

So what’s new with the Google Pixel?

  • Size – Google Pixel comes in two sizes: 5-inch 1080p display Pixel and 5.5 inch Quad HD panel Pixel XL.
  • Storage Space – Available in two options: 32 gb and 128 gb.
  • Colors – 3 colors are available for Pixel: Really Blue (available only in US), Very Silver, and Quite Black.
  • Google Assistant – Google announced its latest competitor to Apple’s Siri and Windows’ Cortana. It first appeared in Google’s smart messaging app Google Allo and now it is built-in with Pixel
  • Best Camera Ever – It was awarded an 89 by DXoMark, a company that rates phone cameras. It is the highest rating that the company has ever given to a phone camera. Pixel has a 12.3-megapixel resolution with large 1.55-micron pixels and an f/2.0 aperture.The camera also has a “Smartburst” feature which picks the best photo out of a short burst. Another is the HDR+ (High Dynamic Range) which splits images up to short exposures, and then combines the image pixel by pixel.
  • Quick Charging – Another feature of Pixel to look out for is its quick charging feature. In a span of 15 minutes, the Pixel already has a 7-hour battery life.
  • Unlimited Photo Back Up – Through Google’s Photos app, users can now back up their photos without the fear of losing storage space. Google Photos introduced its new feature “Smart Storage” which automatically frees up space. Photos are also backed up in full resolution.
