Top 5 Reasons Why People Unfollow your Brand's Social Media Page

Sprout Social recently conducted a survey of more than 1,000 people to get their thoughts on various aspects of branded social media content. In the study, it revealed the top five reasons why people tend to unfollow a brand’s social media page.

  1. Posting too many promotional materials – Social media should be used as a communication platform, not a broadcast platform. With this, a brand’s social media page must have a two-way interaction with their audience instead of bombarding your audience’s news feed with several promotional materials.
  2. Using slang and jargon – Avoid using words that are difficult to understand. Remember to make your words simple.
  3. Absence of personality on their accounts – Auto-generated replies and inspirational postings won’t do! Build your social media strategy and provide your audience with interactive and engaging content.
  4. Trying to be funny – Some brands are just not meant to be humorous. Experimenting on one’s brand personality is a must.
  5. Late response – Replying to your audience’s comments and inquiries will greatly help with building your brand’s reputation online. Providing your audience with personal replies is a plus.
